Himachal
Pradesh
Meaning ‘In the seat of the Himalayas’, Himachal Pradesh is just that – located in the far north of the Indian subcontinent, it sits flush in the lap of the Western Himalayas. Famed for its spectacular natural beauty, it is India’s most rural state, with just 10% of the population living in urban areas. Highlight attractions o the region include the charming capital city, Shimla; the scenic hill station of Khajjiar, with its snowy mountain peaks and lush pine forests; Key Gompa, a Tibetan Buddhist monastery and Lama training centre located more than 4000 metres above sea level in the Spiti Valley; and Dharamsala, home to the exiled Tibetan government and the Dalai Lama.
