We love Cambodia, it offers a wide variety of experiences with magnificent temples, a rich culture and impressive national parks with a wide range of ecosystems.
The temples of Angkor in Cambodia are one of the world’s foremost ancient sites and a must-visit destination, rivalling the pyramids and the Tal Mahal in scale and detail. Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world, is a highlight of the complex, featuring intricate carvings and impressive architecture. The ruins of Angkor Thom, including the Bayon Temple with its giant stone faces, offer a glimpse into the region’s rich history. Ta Prohm, with its jungle-covered structures, is a unique example of nature reclaiming ancient architecture.
Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s vibrant capital, is steeped in history and culture, offering a fascinating blend of colonial architecture, bustling markets, and Buddhist temples. The Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda, are stunning example of Khmer architecture. The city’s infamous Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum serve as a sobering reminder of Cambodia’s tragic past. Phnom Penh’s markets, such as the Central Market and Night Market, offer a wide range of local goods, from souvenirs to street food.
Battambang, Cambodia’s second-largest city, is a charming blend of French colonial architecture and rural Khmer charm.
This is a good base to explore Tonle Sap lake, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and its fascinating floating villages. There are also the Phnom Sampeau ‘bat caves’ and interesting monuments such as Phnom Banan, both giving stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The Bamboo train is also a fun experience.
Eastern Cambodia, encompassing provinces like Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri, is a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers. The Bousra Waterfall in Mondulkiri, is a breathtaking two-tiered cascade ideal for a refreshing dip, and experience ethical elephant encounters at the Elephant Valley Project. You can discover the vibrant traditions of ethnic minorities like the Bunong and Kreung, and trek through Virachey National Park, home to diverse wildlife and scenic landscapes.
Southern Cambodia contains many national parks, preserving primary rainforest, mangrove, and coral eco-systems, as well as traditional ways of life. These can be explored through hiking, kayaking, and snorkelling, as well as boat tours and staying with local populations.
Complementing the national parks are laid-back coastal towns famous for their fresh seafood and a charming French-colonial vibe. There are some of the best beaches in Southeast Asia to relax on as well!
November to February is Cambodia’s cool dry season with mild temperatures (20–28°C), low humidity and clear skies. This is peak tourist season, best for Angkor Wat and outdoor sightseeing.
March to May is very hot (up to 40°C) with dry landscapes. There are fewer crowds, but the heat can be intense
June to October there are heavy rains with lush green scenery and high humidity. However, prices are lower with fewer tourists, but some rural roads may flood.
