Anuradhapura
Uga Ulagalla
Set amidst fifty-eight acres of pristine woodland, this 150-year-old mansion is the crown jewel of this serene retreat. The acclaimed Ulagalla is situated between two shimmering reservoirs, rice paddies, and lily ponds, and was formerly the ancestral estate of the Anuradhapura aristocracy.
Twenty-five villas are scattered throughout the expansive estate. Each villa is designed to harmonize with the natural surroundings, constructed using fire-resistant and eco-friendly material called Durra. Made from straw, Durra minimizes sound transmission, is completely recyclable, and is ten times stronger than drywall. Every villa features LED lighting and uses environmentally friendly gas for air conditioning, helping to reduce the estate’s carbon footprint. Design elements include a four-poster bed, central lighting control, a minimalist bathroom, a spacious living room with a 42” LCD TV, a private plunge pool with air jet bubbles, and extensive outdoor decking for dining and relaxing. Ceylon tea and coffee are also available in all villas.

Consultant Review
One of our Travel Consultants visited Uga Ulagalla in October 2023. Here is what Nathan had to say.
“WOW! Villas are just amazing – spacious, living room, private pool. Like little apartments. Villas are mostly private but guests wanting extra privacy should request it (i.e. if you don’t want anyone to be able to see you while you are in your private pool). I was surprised at how large and spread out the property is. You need to get a cycle (included) or call for a buggy to get back and forth the main building (unless you want to walk, which is a bit much to do that every time). Specialty dining restaurant in the paddy field, with huge traditional Sri Lankan menu, maybe 20 odd dishes.”
