Brunton Boatyard
This is the iconic place to stay in Fort Kochi. More than a century ago, George Brunton & Sons set up a boat-building facility in Kochi which grew to become one of the biggest ship-builders in the country. Records show that the British used some of the ships built here during World War II. On the very same site, many years after the boatyard was shut down, Brunton Boatyard was built – effortlessly recreating the splendour of the city’s illustrious past. For what is essentially an intimate sea-facing property, the Brunton Boatyard possesses a remarkable sense of scale and takes you back in time to the days of the British Raj.
Situated at the harbour mouth overlooking the busy ship channel, all 22 rooms boast a magnificent view of the sea and the many boats and ocean liners that pass by. The period feeling of the resort with its huge halls, high ceilings, and long passageways extends to the rooms which have four poster beds. The ancient royal punkahs (fans) in the reception, old Dutch maps, portraits of Kochi’s illustrious leaders on the walls and an old anchor in the courtyard, all add to the ancient charm. There is a multi-cuisine restaurant and specialty seafood served on a first floor terrace with great views over the harbour and Chinese fishing nets. The Armoury Bar serves excellent mojitos!
The hotel is part of CGH Earth group who have built an excellent reputation for high quality, well managed, authentic properties in south India.
