Tigers

The deep gorges, lakes and jungles are the habitat of many carnivores such as caracal, panther, jackal, and hyena and also a rich variety of resident and migratory birds. However, the most famous resident is the endangered tiger which is spotted quite frequently at Ranthambore. All the photographs of tigers on this page taken by us, not a professional photographer, which shows how accessible they are.
Ranthambhore Fort

Ranthambore Fort was founded by Chauhan rajput King Sapaldaksha in 944 AD and is said to have got its name from two adjoining hills – Rann and Thambhore. The fort commands a strategic location, 700 feet above the surrounding plain, located on Thambhor Hill. The walls of the fort are about 7 kilometers in length and include an area of nearly 4 square kilometers. The three large lakes of Ranthambore national park, the Padam Talab, Malik Talab and Raj Bagh, are visible from the fortification walls.
Wildlife

Other wildlife includes large herds of Sambar deer which can be seen on the edges of lakes feeding on aquatic plants, seemingly unafraid of passing jeeps. Also in the lake live “Muggers” or marsh crocodiles, often seen basking on the lake shores, and sometimes seen dragging a deer into the water.A large mammal not usually seen is the Sloth Bear. This shaggy creature is nocturnal sheltering in rocky outcrops at night.
