Athirappilly Falls

Situated in the Sholayar Reserve Forest of Thrissur district, the falls are around 25 miles northeast of Kochi. Athirappilly is the largest waterfall in Kerala and is quite spectacular, especially following the monsoons. Stay at the wonderful Rainforest Resort for magnificent views of the falls directly from your room. The Sholayar Reserve Forest is great for trekking and is the only place to see all four South Indian hornbill species.

The north of Kerala in particular has some gorgeous, unspoilt beaches where mass tourism is yet to make its mark. We love the beaches at Kannur and around Neeleshwar. You’ll also find a unique culture in these parts in the form of Theyyam; an elaborate dance ritual held at local temples between October and May where the performer is said to be possessed by the spirits.
