‘Falhumaafushi is the smaller of the two islands, and has a wonderful relaxed and tranquil vibe – but you also have the option to cross the footbridge to Dhigurah and explore all the restaurants and bars. I remember the waiter Ahmed telling me the local legend of a lost Indian spice-trader’s romance with a mermaid, and a mythical flower appearing in the ocean – the Falhumaa restaurant is built in the shape of this flower, at the end of a long jetty. I was then gifted a bag of spices and dinner is served! I would also add that it is DEFINITELY worth the effort of an extra domestic flight transfer to get to this remote and pristine part of the Maldives.’ Nathan Steele
