Sumbawa Culture
Sumbawa culture is similar to that of other parts of West Nusa Tenggara. They do have some unique traditions. Families are very close and often work the rice fields together. The main religion is the sunni islam faith, with local traditions incorporated. Sakeco music is very popular and can often be hard in villages. The main economy is agriculture and animal care. If you want to experince the true culture in Sumbawa spend time in local villages, head to the fishing villages to see locals that work out on boats and enjoy celebrations such as bull racing.

The racing of water buffalo attached to a sled or plow through flooded fields has become a popular attraction. Its original aim was to churn the mud before planting crops. The buffalo are prepared with special oils and incantations on the night before the race. They are very atmospheric and an excellent chance to observer local traditions.
Villages
Village community is very strong in Sumbawa, families live together in one house with moving partitions, when a daughter is wed her husband will join the house.
Sappanwood
Sappanwood is one of the main export of Sumbawa, it is used as a natural dye and also some herbal teas.
Rice Fields
Rice fields are seen all over Sumbawa with villagers working to bring food and wealth to the area.
