On the outskirts of the town of Kurseong is Cochrane Place, the restored and renovated stately British colonial home of Percy John Cochrane, MBE. Sitting on the foothills of the Himalayas and surrounded by tea estates, the hotel has been restored to provide comfortable accommodation. The 31 rooms are furnished with modern amenities yet retain an old world charm. Their distinct character reflects the spirit of the British Raj with antique Burma teak beds, wooden paneling, handcrafted furniture, faux fireplaces and sweeping views of the tea valley and mountains.
There are three room categories; Standard, Deluxe and Family Suites. Guests can relish nostalgic recipes from the British Raj & savour authentic Anglo Indian cuisine at the award winning cafe and restaurant – Chai Country. Tea tours allow guests to explore the different tea estates in the area. Spectacular views of Mt Kanchenjunga can be seen from the guest rooms. Time staying at Cochrane Place can be spent on numerous walking trails and hikes through the local countryside. Birding enthusiasts would enjoy this environment that attracts a large variety of bird species. For an authentic cultural experience, a trip to Darjeeling can be quite insightful – the town is an hour’s drive from the hotel.
These rooms can be found in the new wing of Cochrane Place. The standard room has the option to come with either a queen-size double bed or two twin beds as well as a large bay window which offers spectacular views of the mountains below.
As well as being filled with colonial charm these rooms are each I named after famous Eastern Himalayan peaks, meaning no two rooms are the same. These rooms can include a four-poster kind-sized bed or twin beds a study table and a balcony which is sure to deliver mesmerising views of the tea valley.
Providing you with a comfortable living area and a bedroom with a four-poster king-size bed as the centrepiece. Perfect for a family of four this suite also has two twin beds in the attic. You will also find a balcony which stretches the full length of the suite giving you the chance to soak in the views of the tea valleys along with the Kanchenjunga.
