Kalimpong
Kalimpong is an interesting, attractive hill station nestled in the eastern Himalayas of West Bengla. Due to its high altitude of around 1,250 metres, the climate is mild and offers an escape from the soaring heat of the plains in summer (March to May). In winter (December – February), the temperature can drop to sub-zero, although is typically between 7-16 degrees Celsius. The monsoon season from July to September brings heavy downpours which can cause problems with landslides so is best avoided.
Kalimpong has a rich history and Nepali, Tibetan, Lepcha, and Bhutanese influences make it an interesting mix of cultures. The vibrant markets of Kalimpong, particulalry Haat Bazaar, offer visitors the chance to purchase local handicrafts and fresh produce. Consider including Kalimpong in itineraries that explore the eastern Himalayan region, especially in combination with places such as Darjeeing, Gangtok (Sikkim) and the Dooars.

A marvelous 8-acre parkland with wonderful viewpoints, sprawling gardens with many flowering plants, and pathways to soak in the charm. It’s located at the highest point of Kalimpong municipality at an altitude of about 5,500 ft and located 8kms from the town.

An English medium school founded by a Scottish missionary in 1900, for Anglo Indian orphans. Today it has become a multi-religious co-educational school with a large number of boarding and day students, both sponsored and fee paying.

Buddhist monastery on Durpin Dara Hill containing rare Buddhist manuscripts on Tibetology presented by the Dalai Lama when he visited Kalimpong in 1956. Lovely views for the second floor terrace.
