Brijrama Palace

Our first choice of places to stay in Varanasi. Brijrama is a restored palace dating back to 1812 and is one of the oldest landmarks in the city. The location couldn’t be better, directly on Darbanga Ghaat with magnificent views of the Ganges. The main Aarti ceremony (prayer ritual) is held in the evening on the adjacent ghat, so very convenient for guests staying at Brijrama. The palace has been sympathetically restored, retaining many original features whilst providing modern comforts in the 32 rooms. This includes air conditioning, TV and WiFi.

The magnificent central atrium of the palace stages live classical musical performances every day which adds beautifully to the majestic ambiance. Two expansive outdoor terraces provide places to lounge and enjoy light refreshments whilst observing the always fascinating myriad of activities taking place along the Ganges. The main restaurant, Darbhanga, serves a wide range of Indian and European/Asian dishes but please be aware that as with all establishments situated in close proximity to the Ganges, only vegetarian food is served and no alcohol is available.

Access to Brijrama is via Bhisasur Ghat where guests board a Bajra – traditional wooden boat to be escorted to the hotel. Hotel staff will assist with luggage. There is no access by car.

In terms of location and majestic splendour, Brijrama Palace is simply unbeatable.
