Coconut Lagoon
Condé Nast Traveller rated the Coconut Lagoon to be among the 25 best get-aways in the world – and not without reason. The authenticity of the resort along with the captivating beauty of its surroundings will not fail to mesmerise you. Set on the eastern shores of the majestic Vembanad Lake, Coconut lagoon is mostly accessed by the resort taxi boat. The red roofs of the resort emerge from the palm shadows as you travel up the river and make a sharp turn that brings you right into the reception.
As you step off the boat into a reception area that is built in Kerala style, you will be welcomed with a refreshing coconut drink and live musical recitals. The most striking feature of the Coconut Lagoon is its architectural elegance, the structures of which have been built from old houses. With accommodation spread over a 20-acre estate and nestled amidst majestic swaying palms and stunning surroundings, you can really feel nature taking over. Though built in a traditional style, all the accommodation has ultra-modern amenities. Even the restaurant is housed in a traditional structure with two atrium-like courtyards under a roof supported by pillars.
The resort offers heritage bungalows, heritage mansions and private pool villas. The Heritage Bungalows are compact independent cottages, set in lush lawns along the canals. The Heritage Mansions are larger, with an upper story defined by distinctive wooden ribs that resemble the sides of a boat. Most of these afford fine views of the lake. Beyond, on their own quiet section of lake front, are the Pool Villas. Peace and privacy combine here, with private pools, distinctive interiors and even your own little hammock with gorgeous views across the lake.
At Coconut Lagoon, the Lake Front Villa with Private Pool provides a private haven that combines contemporary elegance with traditional Keralan architecture. Each villa is built from reclaimed wood from ancestral homes and has a private garden with a pool that overlooks Vembanad Lake, a large bedroom, and separate living and dining areas. Guests may enjoy the calm ambiance from their waterfront terrace, indulge in a complimentary one-hour sunset sail (according to weather conditions), and discover the rich cultural legacy of Kerala in a tranquil environment.
A distinctive fusion of contemporary amenities and traditional Keralan architecture can be found at the Heritage Mansion at Coconut Lagoon. Built from the salvaged elements of historical dwellings, these two-story lodgings have terracotta floors, dark wood interiors, and antique antiques made by regional craftspeople. The lower floor has a living space and a bathroom that is partially exposed to the sky, while the top level has a large bedroom with a double bed (twin beds can be requested). Guests may relax on a secluded sit-out patio with views of the resort’s waterways. Air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, a minibar, tea and coffee makers, and organic bath products are among the amenities. Kerala’s rich cultural legacy is reflected in the Heritage Mansions, which offer a genuine and tranquil haven.
