If the opulent Oberoi Amarvilas isn’t an option, the Trident is our second choice of hotel in Agra. Also part of the Oberoi group, the hotel is in a good location only one mile from the Taj Mahal. It consistently receives a high rating from clients, mainly due to the high level of service and comfortable, modern facilities. We particularly liked the large open plan restaurant with lovely views of the inner courtyard tropical gardens and swimming pool.
In a low-key attempt to emulate Agra’s architectural heritage, this hotel uses the same red sandstone favoured by the Mughal kings, but that’s where the similarity ends. In fact, the moment you step into the lobby, you’ll feel thoroughly located in the 21st century. The 135 guest rooms have plush beds, tasteful decorations and are arranged around a central garden, with manicured lawns, trimmed hedges, and a swimming pool. All rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, television, Wi-Fi and a minibar. The restaurant offers evening buffet and a la carte options. As well as classic Rajasthani curries, there are south Indian uttapam, idlis and dosas for breakfast, proper Hyderabadi clay-pot biryanis, and an extensive Italian menu including pizza. The bar serves lighter bites, notably excellent bruschetti. Breakfasts are superb with freshly baked pastries: the full buffet is laid out by 6am for early risers heading for the Taj Mahal when it opens. In room dining is also available. A kids club is also provided at the hotel making it a great choice for families.
For excellent service and a comfortable stay, the Trident in Agra provides unbeatable value for money.
