This is a gem of a find in rural Rajasthan, located between Ranthambore National Park and Jaipur. Talabgaon Castle is a gorgeous 200 year old fort which has been lovingly restored and re-imagined as a Heritage Resort. The resident Rajput family owners are a delight, always keen to share the experience of a bygone era with their guests. They are also keen polo players - there is a polo ground onsite where a tournament is held every March. The magnificent horses are stabled in the expansive grounds - horse treks are offered through the countryside.
Talabgaon Castle was built in 1818 in the Rajput style of architecture. Rajput Rulers had a keen sense of beauty in art and architecture which is seen in the artistic excellence of their temples, forts and palaces. The property now offers 9 luxuriously furnished Heritage suites, 11 Heritage Rooms, and 4 Deluxe Rooms. Each has been restored using rich fabrics, woodwork, marble and silk drapes, drawn from the colourful artistry and warm hues of Rajasthan. All rooms are non-smoking and offer the following amenities; Turndown service, Hair dryer, Private Bar, Tailor on request, 24-hour in-room dining, Housekeeping service every 24 hours, Daily morning newspaper delivery.
Food is a selection of Indian and international dishes enjoyed either in the dining room or castle gardens. I was served a scrumptious breakfast on the rooftop terrace which was a delight. The Polo Bar is the perfect place to relax with a drink after a long day of exploring or an afternoon of polo. Mingle with the family, friends and other guests. There is also a poolside bar for refreshing drinks whilst relaxing in the sun. For a unique experience, the hotel can organise lunch or dinner in a traditional mud house setting on a local farm in Talabgaon Village. Take in rustic Rajasthan enroute, ten minutes by jeep or 40 minutes by camel cart.
One of the highlights of a stay at Talabgaon Castle is exploring the local area. This is pure, undeveloped, rural Rajasthan, untouched by mass tourism and quite special. Take a stroll through sleepy Talabgaon Village and meet some of the locals. Explore further afield by camel cart or head off to the local desert plains for a camel safari, arriving at the perfect spot to witness the magical Rajasthan sunset.
Talabgaon Castle Heritage Resort, located in heart of Rajasthan (previously known as Rajputana), is 1.3 hours drive south of Jaipur and 1.5 hours north of Ranthambore Tiger Reserve. Talabgaon is 4.5 hours drive from Agra or 6 hours via Delhi via Alwar.
For an off the beaten track experience in Rajasthan, Talabgaon Castle is the perfect place to stay for character, authenticity and wonderful family hospitality. We highly recommend.
