This restored 150 year old haveli (mansion) in the heart of old Jaipur has character in abundance. No two rooms are the same but all are gorgeously decorated with style and opulence, a few even have a small outdoor terrace. The swimming pool and surrounding relaxation area are simply gorgeous with enormous canopied day beds to chill with a refreshing drink at the end of a busy day. The central courtyard turns into a magical candle lit dinner venue in the evening and the food is very good indeed. All in all, a very impressive package – I loved it!
Formerly the townhouse of the eminent Samode family, this is a gem of a hotel, lying in the heart of Jaipur. Oozing charm and character, it is adorned with fabulous frescoes and, with its pretty courtyards and leafy garden, it is difficult to believe that from this sanctuary you can stroll out into the bustling city streets. The bedrooms, some ingeniously created out of hidden parts of the palace, lie all over the rambling building and are superbly decorated, according to the owners’ impeccable taste – modern Rajasthani style at its best. Two of the suites are covered almost entirely in mirror-work from ceiling to floor and wall to wall. The exquisite swimming pool, with a beautiful poolside bar and supremely comfortable ‘salas’, is one of Jaipur’s finest and is a draw in itself. There is also a small but excellent spa for a reviving massage after a day of sightseeing. Perfectionists to the end, the family are constantly thinking up mouth watering new menus and looking for new wines to stock – any gourmet would be satisfied here.
The gentle and caring staff do their utmost to look after your every whim and, since the hotel does not allow groups, each guest receives constant attention and a sense of peace pervades the whole property.
Samode Haveli is a great option for anyone wanting a delicious little boutique hotel in the middle of the old city.
