Windermere River House was built like a large family home amidst two acres of lush gardens on the banks of the Periyar River. It has a lovely, colonial planters feel and style and is an oasis of calm. There are just five rooms – four have a view across the river and the fifth is a duplex room on two floors with views over the rubber plantation. There is a communal sitting room in the main building and the large, open sided dining hall is down by the river. This is a relaxing, quiet place where you can take long walks, quiet boat rides, lounge by the riverside pool and enjoy some yoga. There are many birds within the extensive grounds – but if you are keen, Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary is nearby.
The property is situated in a village called Neriamangalam on the banks of Periyar River, on the border of the Ernakulam and Idukki districts. Agriculture is the predominant occupation in this area. This is an ideal place to spend a couple of relaxing days either at the start or end of a Kerala tour being around 1.5 hours drive from Cochin airport.
