Dadhikar Fort is one of the most stunning heritage properties in Rajasthan that truly reflects the authentic forms of Indian art and culture. Located a short distance from the town of Alwar and surrounded by the Aravalli hills and lush forests, this hotel is a complete paradise for nature lovers. The city of Alwar in Rajasthan has become one of the hot spot destinations for tourists. The princely state of Alwar was established by Rajput King of Kachhawa lineage, Pratap Singh in the year 1770. With numerous majestic monuments, serene lakes, gorgeous valleys and atmospheric villages, it has a lot to offer people looking to venture off the regular beaten track. The most famous attractions in Alwar vicinity include Sariska Tiger Reserve and the reputedly haunted Banghar Fort.

The Dadhikar Fort was constructed approximately 1100 years ago in the 9-10th century as a residential camp. It was built in the middle of thick forests surrounded by the Aravalli Hills by the deserted King Chand and his family. He was forced to leave his capital city of Abhanagari (now Abhaneri) and live in the forests because everything he owned was lost in the massive floods at the time. It was named as “Derakar” as “Dera stands for camp denotes camp “kar” means to do. So “Derakar” stood for “doing a camp” or making a camp.

The rooms and dining hall are designed according to traditional Rajasthan architecture which gives the hotel extra charm. The 18 rooms, named after the nearby forests, are all different and furnished with a blend of rich Indian ethnicity and urbane decor. They are comfortable and functional with good bathrooms. Many feature a balcony, terrace or jharokha (overhanging enclosed window seat) with stunning views across the countryside.

The hotel has a multi-cuisine restaurant Akshyabatloi which specialises in Indian, continental and Rajasthani delicacies served in buffet style. Guests can enjoy the picturesque sights of the majestic Aravalli hills from this rooftop restaurant. In the evening, folk music and folk dance performances are performed.

Dadhikar Fort is a truly authentic heritage fort experience in a part of Rajasthan that is still relatively untouched by tourism.
