Experience India in a unique way - visit Calcutta, Darjeeling and Assam in the company of international best-selling author of the India Tea series novels, Janet MacLeod Trotter.
This exceptional small group tour is a journey through East India to experience the rich history of the British Raj and the picturesque tea estates. Starting in Calcutta, the original capital of India during British rule, you will explore both the majestic landmarks and the fascinating local life - including an opportunity to learn some Bengali cookery with a resident family! The tour then moves toDarjeeling to ride on the famous narrow gauge toy train in Darjeeling and to explore this famous hill station where the British fled to escape the summer heat in the foothills of the Himalayas. You will visit a tea plantation to see how the wonderful Darjeeling tea is grown and made and walk through the verdant gardens with the stunning backdrop of Mount Kanchenjunga. Finally we travel to Assam where you will visit Kaziranga National Park, riding on elephants to see the endangered one horned rhino - a rare sight. In amongst the tea gardens there will be time for independent exploration, trekking and relaxation; there’s a lovely swimming pool and 18 hole golf course at the hotel in Assam!
At each location, Janet MacLeod Trotter will deliver a book reading session from her best-selling ‘India Tea series’ novels, a rare opportunity to bring to life these evocative places and to also view original family cine footage taken by Janet’s grandparents who lived and worked in British India from 1922 to 1950.
This is a truly unique and exciting opportunity to visit India, combining the best features of East India whilst travelling with an international best-selling author!
